Shoulder / Arm / Hand pain

Tendonitis is inflammation of a tendon; “itis” after a word usually indicates inflammation, think of arthritis, cellulitis, and so on. Inflammation can be from injury or disease. Healthcare providers prefer to use the word “tendonopathy” to show that tendonitis is more than only inflammation. It is also thought to be a degenerative disease.
There are many reasons a person can be susceptible to inflammation, including an inborn (hereditary) tendency, diabetes or a high sugar diet and high anxiety.

When areas are inflamed, use ice /cold compresses – 10 minutes on and 10 minutes off. Massage can help. Physiotherapy can help.  Occupational therapists can help you improve your functioning and day to day activities at home. Acupuncture treatments or dry needling can sometimes help

If you have been diagnosed with Golfer’s elbow or Tennis Elbow or Elbow arthritis, you can find exercises at this link to Elbow.

Arm Pain can be from an injury to your biceps muscle. Check out these videos. Always speak to your health care professional. Often a tear of the long head of the biceps close to the shoulder can be treated with physiotherapy, exercise, rest and ice. A tear close to the elbow usually requires surgery.

Shoulder pain

DeQuervains tenosynovitis is a inflammation of a tendon that causes pain in the hand and wrist and thumb. It needs to be treated or it can become chronic and will then often require surgery – tendon release to remove the pressure of the inflamed sheath around the tendon. See the video below.
