Hand pain is often caused by arthritis. Women especially start in their 40s with pain in the thumb joint and the joint above the thumb.
Wrist and hand pain can be from injuries, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or other conditions including nerve entrapment syndromes.
Another cause for hand pain is carpal tunnel syndrome. if you have symptoms – you will need blood tests and testing of your nerves – EMG testing. Until you get this done, use a carpal tunnel syndrome splint at night and do these exercises.
DeQuervains tenosynovitis is a inflammation of a tendon that causes pain in the hand and wrist and thumb. It needs to be treated or it can become chronic and will then often require surgery – tendon release to remove the pressure of the inflamed sheath around the tendon. See the video below.
